History of pauni

Pauni is the small but beautiful city with lots of tourist places, people's can experiences that showcase the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the region..
It was the ancient Buddhist city. Many pilgrims have been found near and in the Pauni.
The river Wainganga flows on the northern side of the town. Number of bathing ghats viz. Diwan Ghat, Ghode Ghat, Vajreshwat Ghat, Hatti Ghat etc. are constructed along the river bank. Some of these ghats are still in good condition. There is renumber of small lakes along the fort wall. It appears that there are remains of what once was the water barrier which served the purpose of defending the town from the invaders. There are about 150 temples scattered all over the town. Pauni has therefore been described as temple town. The important temples are The Great Goddess Bhangaram Mata Twemple, the Dattatraya temples in Vitthal Gujari, the Nilkanth temple, Panchmukhi Ganesh temple, the Chandakai temple, Murlidhar temple, the Vaijeshwar temple,Dhobi Talav Maruti Temple and Ram temple. The entire existing town is located on remains of ancient settlement. Number of ring walls constructed of bricks or by placing earthen pots over one another can be seen at several places in Pauni. These were used for the purpose of draining the sewer. Pauni is one of the famous place after Nagpur where Dasara festival is celebrated.
. Pauni was an ancient town and known as one of the main centres of Buddha culture from the times of Samrat Ashoka. Since 1987, every year people gather together for the Dhamma Mahotsav as a religious festival at Mahasamadhi Bhoomi.

Pauni is a small place in India and can be easily explored within a day. There are many things to do and attractions to visit in this town.

Maha Samadhi Bhumi

2500 years ago Buddha Dharma raised in India and after 1700 years it was extinct from India. The birth place of Buddha Dharma is India. Pannya (Wisdom) Metta (Mercy) Sangha (PMS) was established to spread Buddha Religion. The motive was manifestation and expansion of Buddhism, social, educational and cultural progress of the poor and troddens all over India thru its work. For this purpose Mahasamadhi Bhoomi was made in 1987 in Ruyad situated at Tah. Pauni District Bhandara in state of Maharashtra.

Wildlife Sanctuary

Umred Karhandla Wildlife Sanctuary, about 58 km from Nagpur and 60 km from Bhandara spreed over Pauni Tahsil of Bhandara district and Umred, Kuhi and Bhivapur Taluka of Nagpur district.This Sanctuary has also connection with Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve through forest along Wainganga river. The sanctuary is home to resident breeding tigers, herds of Gaur, wild dogs and also rare animals like flying squirrels pangolins and honey badger. It is bounded roughly by the Wainganga river and the Gose Khurd Dam on the northeas.

Gosekhurd Dam

Indirasagar Dam, also known as Gosikhurd Project, was established with an aim of offering irrigation facilities to the villages of Nagpur, Bhandara and Chandrapur districts. The foundation of the dam was laid by Smt. Indira Gandhi, former Prime Minister of India on 23rd October 1984. The site features 92 m high and 653 m long concrete gravity dam, which was formed after rehabilitating around 249 villages that were affected by the submergence of Gosikhurd. Presently, the dam fulfils the irrigation and electricity needs of the destination and its adjoining areas.
